Senior Optical Packaging Engineer at IonQ

Mohammad Kamal has extensive work experience in the field of opto-mechanical engineering. Mohammad is currently working as a Senior Optical Packaging Engineer at IonQ. Prior to that, they worked at Thorlabs Quantum Electronics, Inc. as an Optoelectronics Packaging Engineer, where they designed and developed optoelectronics packaging and collaborated with chip designers and engineers for device performance improvement. Mohammad also has experience as a System Engineer at Kodak Alaris, where they developed optical imaging systems for dimensional metrology. Kamal worked as a Principal Engineer at EMCORE Corporation, leading the development of opto-mechanical systems for various applications. Mohammad also served as an Opto-mechanical Engineer at INPHENIX, Inc., leading projects on MEMS-based wavelength filters and laser light sources. Before transitioning into industry roles, Kamal gained research and teaching experience as a Research and Teaching Assistant at Concordia University and as a Research Assistant at Dublin City University.

Mohammad Kamal's education history is as follows:

Mohammad obtained a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Specialized in biomedical optics/optical system design) from Concordia University from 2007 to 2011. Prior to that, they pursued a Graduate Certificate in Manufacturing Management from Sheridan College from 2006 to 2007.

Before their graduate studies, Mohammad completed their Masters in Mechanical Engineering (Specialized in optical system development for metrological applications) from Dublin City University from 2003 to 2005.

Furthermore, their educational journey began with a BSc in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, where they studied from 1996 to 2001.

In addition to their formal education, Mohammad Kamal has obtained several certifications related to their field of expertise. Mohammad became a Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert (CSWE) in 2017 and a Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional (CSWP) in 2016. Mohammad has also acquired various other certifications related to SOLIDWORKS software and optical system design from different institutions, such as Ansys Zemax and LinkedIn.
