Somak Mitra is an experienced professional in the field of photonics and optoelectronics, with a strong background in research and development. At KAUST, Somak served as a Postdoctoral Fellow from July 2015 to December 2019, focusing on light-emitting diodes (LED) and photodetectors, as well as time-resolved ultrafast spectroscopy. Following this, Somak held the position of Senior Research Associate at Lancaster University from February 2020 to March 2022 and previously worked at the University of Ulster as a Postdoctoral Fellow from July 2014 to May 2015, alongside a visiting researcher role at AIST in 2013 that involved the fabrication and characterization of inorganic/organic hybrid solar cells. Somak began doctoral research at Ulster University from October 2010 to May 2014, concentrating on nanoscale engineering for silicon nanocrystals in solar cell architectures. Currently, Somak works as an InP Product Engineer at IQE since March 2022. Educational qualifications include an Erasmus Mundus Master of Science in Photonics with Distinction from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and University of St. Andrews, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Ulster.
