Rand Hansen

Dr. Rand Hansen is an educator with 25 years of teaching and leadership experience. He began his career as an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teacher and later district technology coordinator for a large urban school district in Maryland, USA. Additionally, he has worked at Discovery Education, Johns Hopkins University, and National Louis University.

Rand Hansen serves as associate dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Maryland Global Campus. As associate dean, he supports the dean in the planning and execution of all academic and administrative matters pertaining to the successful operation of the School of Arts and Science. He collaborates with the Dean in developing and implementing a strategic plan and championing program quality, administering academic policies and processes at the School level. Prior experience with UMGC includes program director, Learning Design and Technology, UMGC lead designer for the Instructional Design and Technology MicroMaster’s program with edX and served as Acting Vice-dean of the Education Department.

Dr. Hansen holds a master’s degree in Instructional Systems Design from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and a doctorate in Educational Technology from Pepperdine University. In 2015 he was selected by the Center for Digital Education as a Top 30 Technologists, Transformers, and Trailblazers. In 2016, he earned the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Making IT Happen award. He serves as President-elect of the Board of Directors, for the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), an international non-profit with over 25,000 members worldwide.
