Michael Walsh is a highly experienced professional in the field of fusion technology, currently serving as the Head of Fusion Technology and Instrumentation & Control at ITER Organization since December 2009, where the focus is on enhancing the efficiency of fusion technology deployment. Previously, Michael held roles such as Acting Head of Fusion Technology and Instrumentation & Control and Head of Diagnostics Division at ITER, contributing to numerous tokamaks, including COMPASS-C, START*, COMPASS-D, MAST*, and JET. Prior to this, Michael was the Electron Kinetics Group Leader at UK Atomic Energy Authority from 2004 to 2009, managing team members and developing diagnostics for JET, MAST, and ITER. Michael also founded Walsh Scientific Limited, serving as Managing Director from 1991 to 2004, where advanced measurement systems for the atomic and space industries were designed and built. Michael holds a PhD, MEng, and BE in Electrical Engineering from University College Cork, obtained between 1982 and 1991.
