Barbara Plank is a prominent expert in computational linguistics and natural language processing. Currently serving as Vice-President Elect of the Association for Computational Linguistics since January 2024, Barbara holds the position of Full Professor and Bavarian Chair for AI & Computational Linguistics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and is a Principal Investigator at the Munich Center for Machine Learning, both since April 2022. Additionally, Barbara has been a Full Professor for Natural Language Processing at IT-Universitetet i København since May 2018, leading the Master (MSc) Program in Data Science and previously contributing as an Associate Professor in the field. Barbara's academic journey includes various roles such as Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen, University of Copenhagen, and postdoctoral positions at the University of Trento and University of Groningen. Barbara earned a PhD in Computational Linguistics from the University of Groningen and multiple Master's degrees related to language and communication technologies from multiple universities.
