Die Bundesregierung hat eine umfassende Konsolidierung der IT des Bundes beschlossen.

Zur Neuaufstellung der IT des Bundes sind weitreichende organisatorische und technische Maßnahmen notwendig. Der Bund wird seine Kräfte in der IT bündeln und dazu den IT-Betrieb der unmittelbaren Bundesverwaltung bis 2022 stufenweise in ein bis zwei IT-Dienstleistern an wenigen Standorten konzentrieren (Betriebskonsolidierung), die Entwicklung von häufig im Bund benötigten IT-Anwendungen und -Diensten zusammenfassen und eine Bundescloud aufbauen (Anwendungskonsolidierung) und die IT-Beschaffung in wenigen Stellen der Bundesverwaltung zusammenführen (Beschaffungsbündelung). Mit der Umsetzung der IT-Konsolidierung Bund wird ein ressortübergreifendes, aus zunächst sechs Teilprojekten bestehendes Projekt eingerichtet. Das gesamte Projekt wird von dem Bundesbeauftragten für IT (BfIT) im Bundesministerium des Innern geleitet.
