Gary Michael possesses extensive experience in animal programs and conservation, currently serving as a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Pigeon and Dove Specialist Group since September 2021. At the Fort Wayne Zoo, where tenure began in January 2022 and is projected to continue until April 2025, responsibilities include advising on animal husbandry, USDA compliance, AZA accreditation, and facilities development. Previously, at the Louisville Zoo from February 1989 to November 2020, Gary managed various facets of the bird department, children's zoo operations, and conservation initiatives, while also overseeing staff training and budget management. Educationally, Gary holds a B.A. in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Education from Saint Louis University, along with an M.A. in Business Management and Organizational Development from Webster University.
