Leander Raes is an accomplished economist with extensive experience in natural resource economics and applied biological sciences. Currently serving as a Senior Economist at IUCN since March 2016, Raes has held various roles within the organization, including Economist and Economics Specialist. Prior to this, experience includes positions as a Postdoctoral Researcher and PhD Researcher at Humboldt University of Berlin from October 2010 to April 2016, and a Trainee at the European Commission - ENV in late 2009. Raes began the professional journey as an intern at UNRIC in mid-2009. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Natural Resource Economics from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences from Ghent University, complemented by a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Rural Development: Rural Economics and Management from Ghent University, and a Technical Engineering degree in Agriculture from Universidad de La Laguna.
