Michelle Bender serves as a Steering Committee Member for the UN Ocean Decade, contributing to the connection between law and the human-Ocean relationship. Currently, Michelle is a Legal Counsel at Ocean Vision Legal and has been a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law since June 2017, engaging in global environmental law initiatives. Previously, Michelle held advisory roles with the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature, directed ocean campaigns at the Earth Law Center, and led conservation programs at Friends of the Sea Otter. Michelle's background includes an internship in ocean policy research at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and educational qualifications in Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law and Graduate School, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology from Western Washington University.
