Nicholas MacFarlane

Nicholas Macfarlane is a distinguished Senior Scientist and Programme Manager at IUCN since April 2016, with prior roles as a Scientist and Technical Advisor and Programme Officer within the same organization. Nicholas's expertise is further demonstrated through a recent position as a Christine Mirzayan Fellow at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Previous experience includes a researcher role at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and a research assistant position at Columbia University in the City of New York. Nicholas began the professional journey in research assistance at Yale University and gained field experience as a divemaster at various organizations. Additionally, Nicholas served as a teacher at Fundación Chimborazo. Academically, Nicholas holds a PhD in Biology and Oceanography and a Master's of Science in Technology and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Neuroscience from Princeton University, graduating summa cum laude. Nickolas also obtained an IB Diploma from Pearson College UWC.
