Software Engineer Infrastructure at IXL Learning

Braxton Colagross has a diverse array of work experience in the technology industry. Braxton is currently employed as a Software Engineer, Infrastructure at IXL Learning since 2023. Prior to that, from 2019 to 2023, they worked as a DevOps Engineer at Avail, where they successfully moved monolithic MVP apps from Allstate's infrastructure into containerized microservices on AWS ECS using Terraform and Jenkins, resulting in reduced infra costs, increased performance, flexibility, and reliability.

Before Avail, from 2017 to 2019, Braxton worked as a DevOps Engineer at Telmate, where they utilized Chef and Terraform on heterogeneous infrastructure, including bare metal, Proxmox VMs, and AWS. Braxton was part of a small team responsible for producing full-stack products with unique security requirements.

In 2016, Braxton worked as a Site Reliability Engineer at Dropbox. Prior to that, they worked briefly at CheckMate.io in 2015 as a Software Engineer, where they focused on DevOps and migrated CheckMate from Heroku to AWS using various technologies such as Chef, Capistrano, Nginx, Passenger, Rails, Sidekiq, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Memcached.

From 2013 to 2015, they were a DevOps Engineer at We Heart It, implementing Chef on SoftLayer and AWS, managing technologies like Rails, NGINX, Apache2, HAProxy, Varnish, Passenger, Redis, MySQL, Cassandra, MongoDB, Nagios, Ubuntu, and Debian 7.

Prior to We Heart It, Braxton worked as a DevOps Engineer at Tapjoy in 2012, where they utilized Chef on AWS to manage Rails, NGINX, and Unicorn.

In 2011, Braxton worked as a DevOps Engineer at Quid, Inc., where they used Chef on Rackspace to automate the creation and configuration of Quid's dynamic private cloud computing environment.

Before their career in the technology industry, Braxton served in the US Army as a Computer Engineer from 2009 to 2011.

Braxton'swork experience also includes a position as an Engineer at Gleason Research Associates, Inc. from 2006 to 2009, where they worked on various engineering projects.

Braxton Colagross began their education at Northwest-Shoals Community College from 2002 to 2005, where they obtained an Associates degree in Pre-Engineering. Following this, they attended The University of Alabama in Huntsville from 2004 to 2008, earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a focus on Computer Engineering.
