James Theard is an experienced educator, counsellor and learning professional with a career spanning more than 25 years across education, counselling, mental health support, community learning, charitable organisations and information technology. His varied professional background has been shaped by a longstanding interest in communication, individual development and the different ways in which people learn and respond to personal challenges.

Throughout his career, James has worked with both young people and adults in academic, vocational and community-based learning environments. His educational experience has included Life Skills, Functional Skills, GCSE and A-Level tuition, with teaching across Maths, English and Sciences. His work has involved diagnostic assessment, lesson and course planning, portfolio assessment and the development of learning strategies designed to reflect the circumstances and requirements of individual learners.

Counselling represents another significant area of James's professional experience. Following formal training through Counselling Training Initiatives at Yale College, he developed extensive practical experience informed principally by Rogerian person-centred therapy and existential psychotherapy. Over the course of his counselling work, James has supported hundreds of clients through thousands of live sessions, including individuals affected by bereavement, personal trauma and significant life challenges.

James has also applied his counselling, communication and analytical skills within the charitable sector. His experience includes roles with Chester & District MIND, Wrexham MIND, the Alzheimer's Society and PAPYRUS, together with voluntary bereavement counselling at Hope House Children's Hospice. At Chester & District MIND, his responsibilities extended into fundraising, research and data analysis, including successfully securing funding for the development of a mobile counselling service designed to increase access to mental health information and support.

His background in education extends further into adult learning and technology. James previously taught Computing and ICT at Yale College, designing and delivering academic and vocational programmes for young people, adults and learners with disabilities. He later delivered literacy, numeracy, employment and life skills through adult and community learning programmes. During his work with Voluntary Action Vale Royal, James was rated "outstanding" by an Ofsted inspector, while learners regularly achieved a 100% pass rate on his courses.

Earlier experience in software training and technical support provided James with an additional foundation in technology and analytical problem-solving. His technical development has included Cisco networking training and Microsoft qualifications, complementing the communication and research skills developed throughout the wider course of his career.

James holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with Psychology and a Master of Urban Planning from New York University. His broader professional development encompasses counselling, teaching and assessment, safeguarding, child protection and information technology.
