The Trust, founded on 11 October 2004, is a social innovation project working within the children at risk domain

As a faith-based response to the proliferation of orphans and other children made vulnerable by HIV and AIDS we remain committed to working within a child-rights framework in which holistic child development within a community based approach is promoted. As such we believe children should be cared for within home-based care units within their own local communities.

Our social innovation identity relates to our promotion of the concept of “virtual adoption”. This innovative approach is aimed at mobilising the global village to partner with the local village in taking responsibility for the care of orphans and other children made vulnerable by HIV and AIDS. The sponsors constitute a virtual extended family which ensures critical supplementary support for the local caregiver who is battling to care for the children in the context acute poverty.

Further innovation includes the Trust’s building of a management system which manages the complexity within the virtual adoption model. The Management of Orphans and Valuable Children (MSOVC) heralds an exciting migration of business information management systems and business intelligence tools into the civil society domain. The purpose of which is to ensure scalability, data integrity, traceability, accountability and safe transfer of funds. The Trust exists to serve existing and new care-based organisations to ensure that they double and redouble efforts in order to match the scale of the problem.
