James Pearse

Associate Principal, Registered Architect at Jasmax

James has over 20 years’ experience across a wide variety of building typologies, from medical to mixed-use to commercial to convention centres. James is passionate about creating and delivering architecture that enriches people’s daily lives. He excels in collaborating and coordinating design teams as well as resolving complex building interfaces to ensure the client’s vision and project outcomes are achieved.

James thrives on getting fully immersed in both the aesthetic and detail of the building. To projects he brings a keen appreciation and technical understanding of how the individual stages of the design and construction process feed into and impact each other.

Prior to joining Jasmax in 2022, James spent over four and half years working on the design and delivery of Te Pae (Christchurch Convention and Exhibition Centre) for global architectural studio, Woods Bagot. James spent more than a decade working in Melbourne for some of the leading Australian design studios such as Lyons, ARM and NH Architecture, prior to moving home to Christchurch.

James has been involved in numerous projects across Aotearoa New Zealand. Currently his focus is on delivery excellence for Jasmax. He is involved in Te Rangihīroa, a 450-bed student accommodation building for the University of Otago, and a Category 2 Heritage commercial restoration project in Central Ōtautahi.
