Meiling Honson

Associate Principal, Registered Architect at Jasmax

Associate Principal Meiling Honson is a key part of Jasmax’s Education Practice Management Team. Her 17 years’ experience as a registered architect has seen her build an impressive portfolio of projects both here and internationally.

After graduation in Sydney, Meiling worked on the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra and Abbotsleigh Research Centre in Sydney before deciding to move to Shanghai, both because of her Chinese-heritage and because she was interested in the challenge of designing in one of the world’s most populous cities. Here she worked at HASSELL on commercial projects such as Alibaba’s Head Quarters in Hangzhou, a 150,000m2 office complex. With a keen love for the education sector, she then moved into working for RMJM and Perkins Eastman on large-scale education projects.

Meiling has experience across the board on a range of project types including large-scale high rise residential, cultural, educational, healthcare and retail projects.

In 2016, she returned to New Zealand to work for Jasmax. She has recently completed the $82 million Western Springs College Ngā Puna O Waiōrea Redevelopment as Project Architect, the Ministry of Education’s single largest school redevelopment.

A reliable, generous and knowledge-rich leader, Meiling is a talented designer with proven leadership ability, having run large-scale project teams directly under the Project Director. Her experience ranges from primary client interface, to controlling project budgets and mentoring team members.

Meiling is passionate about education design in Aotearoa New Zealand.
