Stephen Thurman

Principal, Head of Knowledge & Innovation, Registered Architect at Jasmax

In his role as Technical Manager, Stephen Thurman leads a team of specialists to ensure technical quality and risk are managed across all Jasmax projects.

Practically minded and solution-orientated, Stephen holds over 30 years’ experience in the delivery of complex projects across various typologies.

During his considerable career, Stephen has developed a deep knowledge of materials and construction systems, together with a broader commercial understanding of the design, construction and regulatory controls involved with the successful assembling of buildings.

He has a special interest in building façade geometry signified through his involvement with Christchurch Art Gallery, Delegats Marlborough Winery and NZI Auckland Office projects.

Stephen champions innovation, promoting the early introduction of warm roof and cross laminated timber technologies into practice projects.

Originally from the UK with a property valuation and construction background, Stephen came to New Zealand in his early twenties on a working holiday. He quickly decided to make Aotearoa his home and registered as an architect here. He has been a valuable member of Jasmax’s Knowledge and Innovation team for over ten years.

Stephen is actively engaged within the architectural profession; as an NZRAB Assessor and regular contributor to NZIA, MBIE and BRANZ workshops and submissions.
