Tim Robinson

Principal, Senior Urban Designer at Jasmax

Tim grew up in India and the UK, trained and registered as an Architect with elective studies in Planning, and now specialises in Urban Design. Driven by seeking new solutions which can reshape the environment, society and economics, Tim is passionate about creating connected, people-centric communities and cities for a post-carbon future, which reflect the unique culture of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Tim’s 20-year career has seen him have a significant involvement in large urban transformation including leading masterplans through participative design with community, diverse stakeholders, and technical specialists.

Tim has supported Tāmaki Regeneration Company since 2013, leading teams delivering masterplan, town centre, neighbourhood, infrastructure and housing design projects and providing expert design advice into their large-scale procurement process. He has combined this with early design strategy advice or leading city-building projects including transport infrastructure, mixed use intensification on main streets, green infrastructure, healthcare masterplans and development feasibility/potential studies.

Before moving to New Zealand, Tim worked in the UK on large-scale urban regeneration programmes, design-led community engagement, and design and construction supervision. At Newcastle City Council, Tim was attached as a CABE-sponsored Design Officer to a large-scale housing regeneration, delivering spatial strategies, codes & plans, and worked in community-facing regeneration hubs/shops.

Between 1998 and 2006 Tim worked in the design office of a Community Housing Provider which owned 50,000+ homes nationwide. His work as a Project Architect focused on urban intensification, neighbourhood revitalisation, supported housing and ‘green’ specifications, and community engagement, working across concept to construction stages, and from new builds to heritage conservation. This included estate renewal projects in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Dundee, and prefabricated housing product development in partnership with IKEA.
