Chris Johnson

Chris Johnson is an experienced economic development professional currently serving as the Director of Economic Development for Johnston County, NC, since September 2013. In this role, Chris actively promotes economic opportunities within the county by focusing on job retention and attraction. Previous experience includes serving as Co-Owner of Jewel's Formals since 1991, where Chris manages a retail store specializing in formal wear. From April 2000 to September 2013, Chris was the Executive Director of the Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation, overseeing downtown revitalization efforts. Early career experience includes working as a Congressional Aid to Congressman David Funderburk from 1995 to 1996. Chris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from East Carolina University, completed in 1989.
