In 2017, the tragic death of 16-year-old Josh Vesslee highlighted the pervasive gun violence issue in Philadelphia, with 1,300 victims that year and 13% being children. This underscores the urgent need to address street violence.

Street violence is a growing concern in Philadelphia, driven by the lack of academic opportunities for low-income families. In 2019, the city's graduation rate was only 69%, emphasizing the need to tackle educational disparities to curb street violence.

Despite challenges, Josh Vesslee's legacy lives on through The Josh Vesslee Foundation, established by friends and family. The nonprofit aims to improve academic opportunities for low-income youth in Philadelphia, breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering the next generation.
