Steve Sain

Steve Sain has extensive work experience in the field of geospatial and data sciences, particularly in the context of climate change and weather forecasting. Steve currently holds multiple roles at Jupiter Intelligence, including Senior Director of Geospatial and Data Sciences and Senior Principal Data Scientist. At Jupiter, Steve is involved in providing data and analytics services to predict and manage risks arising from weather and climate change. Prior to their current position, they worked at The Climate Corporation as a Senior Staff Researcher and Team Lead. Steve has also worked at the University of Colorado as a Faculty-in-Residence Scholar and as an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Denver. Their research and teaching focused on topics such as spatial statistics, uncertainty quantification, and climate modeling. Earlier in their career, Steve was an Assistant Professor at Southern Methodist University, where they conducted research on mixture modeling and outlier detection and taught various statistics courses. Before that, they served as a Scientist and Section Head at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, where they developed statistical tools and methods for geophysical research. Steve Sain received a BA in Mathematical Sciences and Statistics from Rice University in 1990. Steve went on to obtain a PhD in Statistics from the same institution, completing their degree in 1994.
