Tim Stanley has had a long and varied career in the legal field. Tim began their career in 1988 as an Advisory Board Member for a number of companies and non-profits. In 1996, they began working with Stanford on providing online information resources, and was the editor of The Stanford Copyright and Fair Use Center. In 2003, they became the CEO of Justia, a company whose mission is to make law and legal resources free for all. In 2007, they joined the Board of Directors for Nolo.com. In 2008, they joined the Board of Directors for American LegalNet, a leader in advanced workflow technologies. In 2009, they became a Member of the Board of Trustees and General Counsel for Public.Resource.Org. In 2011, they began working as a Web Development Consultant for Suspect.com Consulting. In 2013, they joined the Board of Directors for JURIST. In 2015, they joined the Board of Directors for RB - Stealth Mode. In 2017, they joined the Board of Member for Compass (formerly Maritime Law Book) / vLex Canada.

Tim Stanley obtained a BS from Stanford University in 1986 and an MS from Stanford University in 1989. Tim then attended Harvard Law School from 1991 to 1992 and University of Michigan Law School, where they obtained a JD in 1992. Prior to that, they attended Huron High School, graduating in 1982. Tim also obtained an Attorney certification from the State Bar of California in December 1992.
