Michael Luzung

Head, Process Chemistry & Senior Director at Kallyope

Michael Luzung is the current Head of Process Chemistry and Senior Director at Kallyope. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Research Chemist at Merck Sharp & Dohme from August 2009 to January 2014. In this role, they were responsible for route-scouting and developing new reactions for pre-clinical and late-stage candidates, as well as scale-up of reactions from kilo-scale to pilot plant within GMP regulations. Michael also worked on catalysis via high-throughput screening, pre-clinical, clinical, and late-stage development within process, analytical, and manufacturing, more recently within PhIIb and PhIII. Michael was also the project lead for two programs with one direct report, and the process chemistry lead for consulting and seminars. From January 2014 to August 2018, they worked as a Senior Research Investigator II at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Michael Luzung attended Regis High School before studying Chemistry as an undergraduate at New York University. Michael then went on to get their Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. After completing their Ph.D., Luzung became an NIH NRSA Postdoctoral Fellow in Chemistry at Scripps Research.
