Basem Shihada

Professor of Computer Science

Basem Shihada is a Professor of Computer Science in the Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Sciences & Engineering Division at KAUST. With expertise in developing advanced wireless systems, Basem has contributed significantly to fields such as intelligent wireless systems and underwater communication, notably creating Aqua-Fi, the world’s first underwater Wi-Fi. Basem's research has earned recognition through multiple best paper awards and publications in prominent journals like Nature Electronics and IEEE Transactions. Previously, Basem held positions at Stanford University as a Visiting Faculty and served as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at KAUST, following a role as an Associate Research Fellow at the University of Waterloo. Basem obtained a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo from 2002 to 2007.
