Kendal Futures wants to transform Kendal as a Place, developing the aspirations and principles set out in the Kendal Vision to inspire change and ensure the town's future success.

The Kendal Vision is a call to embrace change, new ideas and innovation and inspire a vibrant and successful future for Kendal. It was commissioned with funding from several of the town's major employers, landowners and private sector businesses, and the process included an intensive process of engagement with 2,000 local people who shared their views.

The Vision aims to:

- Improve the quality of public spaces in Kendal town centre
- Enhance Kendal's key assets and their surrounding areas
- Repurpose underutilised space in the town
- Deliver quality, affordable housing close to the town centre
- Improve movement around the town, increase walking and cycling
- Create a more sustainable Kendal

Kendal Futures has a voluntary board, comprising local representatives from both the private and public sector and which is chaired by Mark Cropper. The private/public sector partnership, works closely with Westmorland and Furness Council, Kendal Town Council, other partners and the local community through the Vision Action Groups.

Having the Vision, led by Kendal Futures, has enabled Kendal to attract a significant funding investment from the Government's Levelling Up Fund. Westmorland and Furness Council has recently been awarded £13.5m for town centre regeneration projects.

The Vision was published in March 2020. In 2021, SLDC, now Westmorland and Furness Council, approved £285,294 of core support over three years to Kendal Futures to deliver activities identified in the Vision and their Kendal Town Centre Strategy, including the appointment of a Vision Manager and associated Action Group work.
