Edwin undertakes a range of insurance and commercial litigation, particularly property damage disputes arising from fires, explosions, floods and escapes of water, and design/construction failures. He defends incoming liability claims and pursues subrogated recoveries. He also provides advice to insurers in relation to policy indemnity issues arising from property owners policies, PL policies, CAR and project policies.

His clients include insurers and their insureds, companies and private clients, in a range of different sectors. Edwin has a particular focus on construction and engineering disputes. He regularly acts for employers, main contractors and sub-contractors in high value, complex, multi-party construction disputes involving these parties and other construction professionals.

Recent case highlights:

Acting for the owner and occupier of commercial premises which suffered damage and contamination during roof replacement and refurbishment works.

Following a very significant EOW at a well-known London development, Edwin acted on behalf of an M&E sub-contractor and claimed an indemnity under the Project Policy pursuant to the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.

Acting for a housing developer in relation to a claim arising from damage to a gas main caused by piling works during the development of a green fields housing project.

Acting for an M&E sub-contractor in relation to a multi-party construction dispute following a very significant escape of water in the basement of a mixed use development undergoing construction.

Edwin successfully defended arbitration proceedings on behalf of insurers following the declinature of a claim brought by the insured main contractor arising from a fire at a building project constructed under a PFI contract.

Acting for CAR insurers in relation to a high value coverage dispute arising from the failure of a paint system on an energy infrastructure project.

Acting for a principal contractor in relation to a multi-party construction dispute arising from defective piling works at a major supermarket’s regional distribution centre.
