John Chertkow

John Chertkow has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. John is currently working as a Director at Kepler + Co since March 2020. Prior to that, they were the Owner of Broad Peak Capital, a private investment and advisory business, from July 2013. At Broad Peak, they specialized in capital raising, debt restructuring, trading strategies, hedge optimization, start-up funding, and deal origination.

In 2013, John co-founded Kolwezi Copper Corp., a resource exploration company focused on Copper and Cobalt concessions in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Prior to that, they worked as an Executive Director at PIM17 Performance Fund, a volatility-based equity hedge fund, from March 2009 to July 2013. The fund achieved superior risk-adjusted returns by trading equities and associated credit within predetermined price ranges.

John also served as an Executive Advisor at SurePure AG from June 2007 to 2013. John played a key role in growing the company's intellectual property offering into global brands and raising investor funding across different domiciles. Before that, they were a Hedge Fund Manager at CCVT (Pty) Limited, focusing on single stock equity volatility and index volatility trading and arbitrage. The fund managed over R150 million and delivered excellent performance.

At the beginning of their career, John worked as a Volatility Trader at Investec from October 1994 to March 2004. John managed a proprietary high yield option business, trading various types of options in multiple markets, including South Africa, Czech Republic, and Poland.

John Chertkow completed their Bcomm degree in Accounting from the University of the Witwatersrand from 1985 to 1988. Following this, they pursued a B.Acc degree in Accounting and Finance at the same university from 1989 to 1990. In 1990 to 1991, they attended the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika, where they obtained their Hons. B.Compt degree. In 1992, they obtained their CA(SA) qualification from SAICA.
