Lauren Smith

Lauren Smith, AICP, currently serves as the Director of Regional Planning for King County, WA, since 2015, where responsibilities include setting the strategic direction for long-range planning efforts, including the King County Comprehensive Plan, and facilitating collaboration among various governmental entities. Smith's extensive experience with King County began in 1995, including roles such as Executive Policy Advisor, where advisory support was provided on land use and growth management policies, and Government Relations Officer, which involved developing regional environmental policies. Additional roles included Lead Legislative Analyst and Legislative Analyst, delivering nonpartisan support to the County Council, and Geographic Information System Analyst, conducting geospatial analyses. Smith holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Geography and Architecture, both from the University of Washington.
