Sergio Freire is a geospatial researcher dedicated to advancing the understanding of human presence and activity on Earth, focusing on population exposure and access to vital resources. With an extensive and diverse background in applied research, development, and analysis for policy support, Sergio has collaborated with leading organizations, including the National Mapping Agency of Portugal and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre. Currently, Sergio is a Senior Geospatial Data Scientist and an Associate Editor for Disasters at Earthzine. Sergio holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the Universidade do Porto, a Master’s degree in Geography from the University of Kansas, and a PhD from the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation of the University of Twente.
