Stuart Allison

Stuart Allison is the Watson Bartlett Professor of Biology and Conservation and the Director of the Green Oaks Field Study Center at Knox College. With a PhD in Ecology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master’s degree in Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island, Stuart has focused on studying plant community recovery from human disturbance, particularly in tallgrass prairies. Stuart’s research includes monitoring reconstructed prairies at Green Oaks, initiated by Paul Shepard, and examining the demography of tree species at the same site. Additionally, Stuart has served as a Fulbright Scholar, exploring geographic variation in attitudes towards ecological restoration, and is a former board member of the Society for Ecological Restoration.
