Principal Product Manager at Kong

John Harris has a diverse work experience spanning different industries. John is currently working as the Principal Product Manager at Kong Inc., where they lead the development and execution of product roadmaps for Kong Mesh and Kuma OSS service mesh software. Prior to their role at Kong Inc., John worked at VMware as a Staff Architect, specializing in 'Cloud Native Applications'. John was responsible for internal enablement and education platforms and co-created a playbook and website called 'Cloud Native Readiness', which educated customers and internal teams on deploying Kubernetes and cloud native applications. John also served as a Senior Cloud Native Architect.

John also worked at Heptio as a Senior Field Engineer, where they facilitated effective customer interactions with Kubernetes and built a Kubernetes operator for registering services to a customer DNS system. John played a crucial role in establishing relationships with new business units and promoting Kubernetes integrations.

Before their tenure at Heptio, John served as a Technical Account Manager at Docker, Inc, leading the West coast TAM team. John advised customers on container technologies and practices, driving expansions into new groups. John contributed to several open-source projects, including Docker Swarm and Docker Compose.

Prior to Docker, John worked at LeftShift as the Head of DevOps & Continuous Delivery, where they led all DevOps delivery consulting globally. John worked closely with high-profile customers across various industries to design and implement continuous delivery processes and tooling. John also played a key role in integrating containers into LeftShift's services and software offerings. John also served as the Technical Training Lead, responsible for leading the development and implementation of LeftShift's technical training programs.

In addition to their technology-focused roles, John has experience as a sports coach at the University of East Anglia, where they managed all aspects of the women's basketball program. John was also responsible for recruitment, budgeting, and organization. John also worked as a Student Accommodation Advisor, where they developed a social media strategy to improve student relations and wrote code to increase efficiency in processing applications.

Lastly, John worked as a Freelance Journalist for MVP Magazine, contributing articles and photography to both print and online editions.

John Harris completed their education in a chronological manner. John first attended the University of East Anglia from 2003 to 2007, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Television Studies. After that, they pursued further education at the same university from 2007 to 2009, obtaining a Master of Arts degree in Film Studies.

In addition to their formal education, John has obtained various certifications in different fields. In 2016, they received Sales Certification and Technical Sales Certification from Docker, Inc. Most recently, in 2019, they earned Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) certification and in 2018, they obtained Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) certification. Lastly, in 2017, they achieved Docker Certified Associate certification.
