Ron Unger

Chairman & CEO at Koniag

Ron was elected to the Koniag Board in 2004 and has served as Board Chairman since 2012. In his role leading the executive team, Ron works with Koniag’s business sectors to achieve growth targets, accomplish strategic goals, and ensure Koniag can funda range of meaningful benefits to its 4,200 Alutiiq Shareholders and their descendants. During his tenure as Chairman, Koniag has experienced continuous year-over-year earnings growth while expanding both its asset base and its Shareholder benefits.

Prior to joining Koniag’s executive team, Ron founded and led WorkSmart, an information technology services company on its multi-state expansion via organic growth and several business acquisitions. For 11 straight years, WorkSmart was recognized as one of the fastest-growing, privately-held U.S. companies. Ron has acquired several businesses, invested in commercial real estate and early-stage companies, and served on for-profit and non-profit boards throughout his career. Ron graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with an engineering degree, and he earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina, Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Ron’s family is from Afognak, Alaska, one of the Koniag region’s original villages. Ron and his wife Fabi have three daughters – Sofia, Stella and Scarlett. The Unger family loves enjoying the outdoors, creating music and visiting people and places of the world.
