Kyiv Whale is Ukraine’s largest smart media sculpture, made entirely from recycled plastic. Officially unveiled in September 2021, it was created by cultural activist Valeriy Korshunov and brought to life through a collaboration between artists, environmentalists, and over 2,000 volunteers — including 25 Kyiv schools.

The project was supported by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and aimed to promote the circular economy, urban sustainability, and environmental awareness.

Installed at the National Complex “Expocentre of Ukraine” (VDNH) in Kyiv, the sculpture features interactive lighting connected to air pollution sensors — turning waste into a living symbol of change.
