Roy Wyss

Engineering Manager at Lambda

Roy Wyss started their career as a Quality Engineering Intern at AWS Elemental, an Amazon Web Services Company, in 2013. During this time, they worked with various teams to identify and integrate customer workflows and use cases into manual tests. Roy also developed and proposed a scalable, partially automated process and methodology for testing product upgrades and downgrades. Furthermore, they led systems-level testing efforts across all products. Subsequently, they became a Software Engineering Intern and constructed a histogram dashboard that contained hundreds of automated unit test results, updated after nightly builds ran, to help developers see trends in test failures and easily identify flaky tests. Roy also optimized ruby code to cut the runtime of smoke tests in half, saving thousands of developer hours cumulatively. Additionally, they undertook development and refactoring tasks in C++. Later, they worked as a Platform/Systems Development Engineer at AWS Elemental where they built, configured, and maintained the RHEL based operating systems behind Elemental's appliances and cloud services. Roy also translated customer system configuration needs into simple, platform-agnostic interfaces and APIs. Furthermore, they created end-to-end build, test, and deploy pipelines for RPM packages, ruby gems, and system images/virtual machines/containers in a variety of formats. Since 2021, Roy Wyss has been working as an Engineering Manager and Senior Systems Engineer at Lambda. Here, they scaled up Lambda's compute, networking, and storage infrastructure, built software to ensure high availability (monitoring systems), and built extremely fast distributed storage systems tuned for AI workloads. Roy also added new instance types with cutting-edge hardware and designed and implemented customer-facing APIs.

Roy Wyss attended Portland State University from 2013 to 2015, where they studied Computer Science but did not earn a degree. There is no information about any additional certifications they may have obtained.
