It doesn't really need an explanation — you know exactly what LAYA means when she sings.

Without sugarcoating or softening a word, the Chennai-born songstress will drop a vulnerable truth in one breath and vibe out about feeling like not attending that next party.

But don't be mistaken by the sugar vocals - you can also find her collaborating on a Hip-Hop record with a slew of rappers like the multi-artiste project "DESAM - One Sky". She may exude sensuality such as in the Rolling Stone premiered "3AM" or leave you high in your spirits with records like "KAALAM".

With a mellifluous flow of sound and words, LAYA aims for her music to spread joy and to serve as a therapeutic experience. With an unapologetic and authentic approach to writing, every song feels like a narrative chapter from your favorite book. She believes that melodies ought to feel like a warm embrace on the rainiest of days and blankets her compositions with a velvet-like layering of lush harmonies. LAYA aspires to keep honing her lyricism towards a manner that would consistently relate to her audience. With each move, she strengthens this connection to listeners.

With a natural flair for thundering rhythms that arises from the 27 years of professional Bharathanatyam training, she effortlessly carves rhythmic patterns when the music calls for it. As a vocal-arranger, she has trained various colleges like Ethiraj, Stella Maris, M.O.P. Vaishnav, Loyola etc for popular cultural events and music. In addition to having explored singing for soundtracks and albums, she was also briefly a national-level Radio Jockey.

She is currently signed to Singaporean-label AKASHIK founded by award-winning artiste LADY KΛSH ॐ.
