Volkan Gurel

Volkan Gurel has had a diverse and extensive work experience. Volkan is currently the Vice President of Engineering at Layer, where they are responsible for leading the team and enhancing the game art. Prior to this, they worked as an Engineering Manager at Coinbase from 2018 to 2020. At Airware, they started as a Director of Engineering in 2015 and eventually managed the Airware Cloud team, building a scalable platform for data collection and visualization with autonomous drones. Volkan also led the data science team, utilizing computer vision techniques and machine learning models to gain insights from the data. At eBay, they served as a Member of Technical Staff from 2011 to 2015, and at Hunch, they worked as a Software Engineer from 2008 to 2011, where they contributed to building a recommendations system based on machine learning and collaborative filtering techniques. Early in their career, they interned as a Software Engineering Intern at Oracle in 2009.

Volkan Gurel completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating in 2009. During the same period, they also pursued Operations Research as their field of study and obtained another Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in that field from the same institution.
