George Stein has a solid background in research and machine learning. George is currently working as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist at Layer 6 AI. Prior to that, they held the position of Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley and Berkeley Lab, where they conducted research on galaxy images, trained convolutional neural networks, and achieved significant improvements in image classification performance. In addition, they developed ML segmentation models and published simulation products while working as a PHD Candidate at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics. George also gained research experience as a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of Toronto, Undergraduate Researcher at The University of British Columbia, Vacation Scholar at Swinburne University of Technology, and Summer Undergraduate Researcher at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics.
George Stein completed their Bachelor's degree in Honours Physics & Astronomy from The University of British Columbia between 2010 and 2014. George then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computational Cosmology & Machine Learning from the University of Toronto, from 2014 to 2019.
