Nancy Shaw serves as the Chief Operating Officer at the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, where leadership in finance, operations, IT, and HR has contributed to the organization's significant growth over five years. Previously, Nancy held the position of Managing Director at Wilderness Torah, overseeing nonprofit management and fundraising during a period of high growth and recognition. As Manager of Social and Environmental Responsibility at Blue Shield of California, Nancy established the company's inaugural environmental responsibility program, which resulted in substantial operational savings and accolades for corporate social responsibility. Additional experience includes roles at the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, Craigslist Foundation, WetFeet, HBO, and RR Donnelley, showcasing a strong background in nonprofit leadership, grant operations, market research, and strategic analysis. Nancy earned an MBA from Presidio Graduate School and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, founded in 1968, works to advance, protect and promote the legal rights of communities of color, and low-income persons, immigrants, and refugees. Assisted by hundreds of pro bono attorneys, LCCR provides free legal assistance and representation to individuals on civil legal matters through direct services, impact litigation and policy advocacy. OUR HISTORY Lawyers' Committee, affiliated with the national Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, which was founded in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy. Following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968, leading members of the San Francisco Bar established the San Francisco Bay Area office to advance civil rights. Towards this end, Lawyers' Committee staff--with the assistance of hundreds of pro bono attorneys--provides free legal assistance and representation to individuals on civil legal matters. In addition, the Lawyers' Committee handles policy impact cases that focus on important civil rights issues.
