Learning Alliance supports governments to improve foundational learning at system-wide scale by helping teachers become more effective. We are focused on scaling Structured Pedagogy, an evidence-based program with 4 interlocking elements: 1) simple, structured lesson plans, aligned to the evidence on how kids learn; 2) teacher training to use the lesson plans; 3) teacher coaching visits to provide advice, encouragement, and accountability, and 4) digital monitoring. Our long-term aim is to support high-impact, cost-effective, government-led delivery of structured pedagogy at nationwide scale in LMICs.

Learning Alliance was incubated by the Ambitious Impact Incubator in 2024, and launched our program pilot in 2025, delivering a structured pedagogy English literacy curriculum to 20,000 students in Uganda, in partnership with the Iganga District Ministry of Education. The pilot showed high promise, with 98% of schools opting in, 95% of teachers using the lessons, and large improvements in teacher effectiveness over the course of the school year. We invest substantial attention into M&E to drive ongoing program learning and improvement, including a live program dashboard and multiple rounds of rigorous learning assessments with controls. (All data is posted publicly - check out our website for links.)

We take impact and continuous improvement seriously: Our first year evaluation found compelling indications of learning gains, including a 10 percentage point reduction in the share of non-readers compared to controls, and a 0.6 standard deviation increase in sounds read per minute. We also identified clear opportunities to improve our average impact on reading scores, which is the focus of our work in 2026. Now in our second year, we continue to serve 20,000 children while testing major improvements to our program, including a fully-revised curriculum, stronger teacher support, and deeper engagement with our government partners.
