Melissa Janis has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of corporate responsibility, sustainability, and non-profit sector. Melissa began their career as a Foreign Affairs Officer and Presidential Management Fellow at the U.S. Department of State in 2000, where they worked until 2004. Following that, Melissa joined USAID as a Foreign Service Officer from 2004 to 2007. Melissa then moved to Alcoa in 2008, where they held the position of Senior Manager of Global Sustainability Programs, managing various climate, circularity, and green workforce development initiatives. In 2010, Melissa joined Pfizer as a Senior Manager of Corporate Responsibility, where they played a key role in overseeing sustainability efforts. From 2013, they worked as the Executive Director/Vice President at Lemlem, an ethical fashion brand, leading corporate responsibility and sustainability initiatives and establishing the brand's charitable foundation. Melissa's recent work includes serving as a Non-Profit Advisor for various organizations starting in 2021. Throughout their career, they have raised significant funds through cause marketing partnerships and has demonstrated expertise in managing complex portfolios and developing grant-making systems.

Melissa Janis holds a Master of Arts degree in International Economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs from Miami University (Ohio).
