James Aston is a Systems Engineer at Leonardo since April 2023, with a strong background in physics and engineering. Previously, James served as a Teaching Assistant at The University of Edinburgh, instructing courses in Condensed Matter, Solid State Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetism, and Fourier Analysis. As a Research Assistant at The University of Edinburgh, James developed a data analysis package in Python to model two-dimensional diffraction patterns, enhancing understanding of lattice dynamics in various materials. Additional experience includes roles as a Technical Researcher at BRE, a Research Assistant at Silicon Thoughts working on neuromorphic systems, and summer research positions at the University of Kent iGEM Team and The Institute of Cancer Research. James holds a PhD in Condensed Matter and Materials Physics from The University of Edinburgh and an MPhys in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Kent.
