Michael Leavell is a results-oriented industrial biotechnology leader with over 19 years of experience in leading high-performing R&D teams across various sectors, including biotech, cleantech, and deep tech. Currently serving as the Senior Vice President of Bioengineering at Lesaffre and as an advisor at the UC-Berkeley Deep Tech Innovation Lab, they leverage their extensive background in product development and technology scouting to drive innovation and strategic growth. Previously, Michael held senior roles at Amyris, where they spearheaded collaborations, integrated AI into research pipelines, and guided the R&D organization through significant transformations. They earned a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Colorado Denver.
