LOCS is a social enterprise which aims to expand equitable access to basic vision care in underserved regions by scaling the distribution of affordable reading glasses through community-based Reader Access Points and integrating vision services within schools. Through establishing decentralized access points staffed by trained community agents, LOCS increases the availability of ready-to-use reading glasses and facilitates simple near-vision screening, while creating clear referral pathways for individuals needing comprehensive eye examinations. At the same time, the initiative strengthens School Eye Health by conducting vision screening for children and combining it with presbyopia screening for teachers, ensuring the provision of appropriate eyeglasses and building teachers’ capacity to identify vision problems early. By linking community distribution systems with school-based interventions, LOCS improves access to near-vision correction, enhances productivity, supports learning outcomes, and contributes to sustainable, locally anchored eye-health services.
