Chris Pickett has a diverse work experience spanning various fields.
Chris started their career as a Laboratory Technician at the University of Colorado, Boulder from 1996 to 1999. Following this, they worked as a Research Assistant at Eppendorf 5-Prime, where they redesigned existing protocols for plasmid DNA minipreps and assisted in other projects utilizing robotics and automated DNA sequencing.
Chris then joined Huntsman Cancer Institute as a Graduate Student, focusing on the regulation of cell migration and behavior in Caenorhabditis elegans. Chris'sresearch involved characterizing the properties of orthologs of human oncogenic transcription factors in the organism.
In 2007, they became a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Washington University in St. Louis, investigating the link between reproduction and aging in the nematode C. elegans. Chris'swork primarily focused on the physiology and genetics of the organism as it ages.
In 2010, they briefly served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri - St. Louis.
From 2012 to 2016, they worked at the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) in two roles. First, as a Science Policy Fellow, they advocated for funding, workforce, and education issues on behalf of ASBMB members. Later, as a Policy Analyst, they focused on a range of issues including funding for biomedical research, graduate student and postdoc training, STEM education, and science in the news. Chris authored a publication on sustainable biomedical research and organized a summit on implementing recommendations.
In 2016, they became the Executive Director of Indivisible Montgomery, a role they held until 2021.
Most recently, they joined Lexical Intelligence as a Senior Science Policy Analyst in 2022 and also worked as a Portfolio Analyst from 2021 to 2022.
Throughout their career, Chris has demonstrated expertise in science policy, research, and leadership in various organizations and industries.
Chris Pickett's education history begins in 1995 when they attended the University of Colorado Boulder. Chris studied Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and obtained their B.A. degree in 1999. Continuing their academic pursuits, Chris subsequently enrolled at the University of Utah in 2000. There, they spent seven years specializing in Oncological Sciences and was awarded a Ph.D. degree in 2007.
