Kirk Baker

Founder and President at Lexical Intelligence

Kirk Baker has extensive work experience in various roles within the field of analytics and software development. Kirk is currently the Co-Founder of the Analytics Research Institute, a role they started in September 2021. Prior to this, Kirk was the Founder and President of Lexical Intelligence since November 2013.

In 2013, Kirk served as the Senior Director of Product Development at TEMIS, where they were responsible for ensuring a smooth technical transition during the acquisition of i3 Analytics.

Before that, Kirk held the position of Vice President of Technical Development at i3 Analytics from January 2012 to May 2013. In this role, they focused on designing and implementing analytics software in the biopharma/life sciences R&D and competitive intelligence sectors. Kirk collaborated with the data analytics team, assisted the sales and marketing team, and contributed to shaping corporate strategy.

From July 2010 to December 2011, Kirk worked as a Computational Linguist at The Zerhouni Group, which later became i3 Analytics. During their time there, they helped conceptualize and build data analytics software using NLP and machine learning libraries.

Prior to that, Kirk was a Senior Consultant at Attain from April 2010 to July 2010, where they provided consulting services.

From March 2008 to March 2010, Kirk worked as a Software Consultant/Data Analyst at Collexis Holdings, Inc, contributing to the Research, Condition, and Disease Categorization (RCDC) system at the National Institutes of Health. Kirk wrote software in various languages and conducted tasks such as document classification and data clustering.

Kirk's earlier work experience includes an internship at Motorola in 2005 and a Research Associate role at Duke University from August 2001 to August 2003. At Duke, they developed a multimodal dialog application and conducted experiments to evaluate system design.

Kirk Baker has a strong educational background in linguistics and computational linguistics. Kirk obtained a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Linguistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they attended from 1998 to 2001. Later, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computational Linguistics at The Ohio State University from 2003 to 2008. Apart from their academic achievements in linguistics, in 2022 Kirk also completed the Pranayama Teacher Training - Level 1 program at the Yoga Education Collective, showcasing a diverse range of interests and pursuits.
