Derek Odell has a diverse work experience in both the technology and gaming industries. Derek started their career at Cyan Worlds, Inc. in 2003, where they held multiple roles including Quality Assurance Tester, Quality Assurance Lead, Audio Integration, Gameplay Programmer, and Mobile Game Programmer. During this time, they were involved in the creation, development, and shipping of several game titles and expansions. Derek also worked on designing and implementing game systems, level building, and gameplay scripting. Additionally, they contributed to audio integration and quality assurance processes.

In 2011, Derek Odell joined Lifeblue as a Senior Backend Developer and Producer. Derek played a crucial role in creating, maintaining, and iterating the in-house framework and CMS. Derek also led training courses for internal and client employees, and provided guidance on server architecture, back-end development, and databases for client projects. In 2019, they were promoted to the role of Director Of Product Development / R&D at Lifeblue.

Derek Odell has a diverse education history in the field of computer science and multimedia programming. Derek attended Eastern Washington University from 2001 to 2003, where they studied Computer Science and Multimedia Programming. Before that, they spent the academic year of 2000 to 2001 at Community Colleges of Spokane, earning an Associate of Arts degree with a focus in 3D Animation and Web Programming. In the same year, they also briefly attended Spokane Falls Community College, where they further explored their interest in Computer Science and Digital Imaging. Prior to these experiences, Derek attended Western Washington University from 1999 to 2000, where they studied Computer Science.
