Ryan McDougal has extensive work experience in the field of visual effects and computer graphics (CG). Ryan is currently serving as the Creative Director at Light Field Lab, Inc., where they work with a team to develop next-generation holographic display technology that merges real and virtual worlds.
Prior to their current role, McDougal worked at Moving Picture Company (MPC) as the Head of CG and VFX Supervisor, responsible for elevating the quality and craft of the studio's creative work. Ryan managed and mentored CG supervisors, served as a VFX Supervisor on various projects, and played a key role in talent acquisition and workflow optimization.
Before joining MPC, McDougal worked as a freelance VFX Supervisor and held the position of Head of CG and VFX Supervisor at Blur Studio. In these roles, they managed large teams of artists, provided creative and technical oversight for projects, and collaborated with directors to plan VFX needs.
Ryan also gained experience at Framestore, Zoic Studios - Commercial Division, a52, and Gnomon School of Visual Effects, where they served in various roles as a VFX Supervisor, CG Supervisor, Look Development Instructor, and Lead Hair and Cloth Artist.
Throughout their career, McDougal has demonstrated strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of visual effects and CG.
Ryan McDougal attended Indiana University Bloomington from 1995 to 1999, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing, Law, and Spanish. Later, from 2005 to 2006, they attended Vancouver Film School and earned a diploma in Animation and Visual Effects with a specialization in Character Animation.
