Likhon iThemba – meaning “There is Hope” – is a registered non-profit and public benefit organisation based in Durban, South Africa. We exist to provide love, safety, and hope for vulnerable and abandoned children, including those with special needs, by creating a family-style environment where every child can thrive.

Our mission is to protect the right of every child to life, care, and belonging. Through our various projects, we ensure children receive not only shelter and medical care, but also emotional healing, therapy, and opportunities to reach their potential.

Our flagship project, HOLAH (House of Love and Hope), is both a baby home and a long-term residence for children with special needs. We care for infants and children who have been abandoned or cannot be reunited with their biological families, offering holistic support that includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and early learning.

Complementing HOLAH are our community initiatives:

Vikela Baby Saver – providing a safe and legal option for the safe relinquishment of infants.

Bowl of Plenty (BOP) – supporting vulnerable families and communities with food and essentials.

The Charity Hop Shop – our sustainable fundraising store, turning donations into impact.


Founded and directed by Kim Brown, Likhon iThemba has grown into a compassionate, hands-on organisation that believes every child deserves hope and a future.

Through partnerships, donations, and public awareness, we continue to advocate for adoption, disability inclusion, and child protection — ensuring no child is left unseen or unloved.
