John Bates has a long history of professional experience, starting with their role as an Angel Investor in 2010. In 2015, they joined Linden Lab as a Metaverse Senior Engineering Manager, and subsequently held Senior Engineering Manager and Engineering Manager roles. In the latter role, they helped launch Tilia, Inc as a business, maintained communication with internal stakeholders, and cleared the runway for their team to make great software.

John Bates attended Tulane University from 2001 to 2004, where they earned a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) with a major in Mathematics and Computational Finance.
