Lead Engineer at Linden Lab

Mark Paschal has a long and varied work experience. Mark began their career in 2001 as a Programmer for the Shuttle simulator project team at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. In 2004, they joined Six Apart as a Software Developer for Movable Type, where they designed and developed a personal social "news feed" and created a community media microblog experience. Mark then moved on to become a Software Developer for Typepad, where they migrated the product's database to a new scalable user-sharded architecture and improved the UX by building Typepad's first rich text editor. In 2009, they returned to Six Apart as a Software Developer for Typepad Conversations, where they supported the launch of the company's lead conversational marketing product and improved project planning by negotiating team's adoption of select agile & Scrum practices. In 2011, they worked as a Contract Programmer for Simpleform, where they improved reliability of automated tests for MLKSHK, an image sharing site, and redesigned MLKSHK's API documentation for automated production. Mark also worked as a Contract Programmer for Duncan Ingram, Inc., where they developed FishingintheUS.com web site & vendor-facing back office CMS in Python with Django. In 2015, they joined Linden Lab as a Lead Engineer, where they started and led a small task force to develop the containerized software platform for the constellation of well-loved software services they were moving to the cloud. Mark also developed culture and process with their remote team to better deliver changes to customers during the COVID-19 pandemic and regularly shipped customer-facing software updates. Mark later moved on to become a Senior Software Engineer at Linden Lab, where they maintained a first-party ecommerce system at virtual world scale and developed new tools for safe, repeatable software deploys to production systems.

Mark Paschal attended The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 1998 to 2003, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
