Unconscious Linguistic Bias

Unconscious linguistic bias is an area that is not yet being explored by hospitals.  Unconscious linguistic bias refers to our unintentional tendency to favor people who sound like ourselves, and to dis-prefer people who sound different from us.  This has many negative effects, though it can be solved.  Dr. Latterman's research shows, at statistically significant levels, that she is able to change participants' unconscious and conscious beliefs about language varieties.  This means that there is a targeted, strategic way to diversity leadership teams and governance boards.

One of our programs, [+ The Highly-Satisfied Patient], is designed to help hospitals and health systems achieve higher HCAHPS scores, better health outcomes, higher patient satisfaction, higher information recall, lower readmission rates, and higher medication adherence.  We teach providers how to deliver culturally and linguistically competent care and how to work with our diverse patient populations.

We are also deeply dedicated to enabling minority candidates and executives reach the highest-level executive positions. Currently, many minority candidates are hitting middle management but not breaking through to the C-Suite and Governance boards.  Our program, [+ Shattering Unconscious Linguistic Bias] is designed to introduce executives to the concept of unconscious linguistic bias, uncover any biases they have, and ultimately make decisions that are not colored by this unintentional linguistic bias.
